Skeleton Crew, the new Star Wars series, appears to be introducing a pirate warlord whom the show will revolve around. It follows a gaggle of children who are lost in the galaxy who are soon joined by Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood, a character that appears to be looking for a Force user, possibly a former Jedi. At this point, it appears that this unusual assortment of space faring misfits will also be setting off on a grand intergalactic treasure hunting escapade.
Skeleton Crew is not different from Star Wars projects developed by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford as it is based in the New Republic Era, alongside the timelines of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. In effect, there have been rumors that this new Star Wars series draws on influence from Amblin and Spielberg, with the Goonies being the most prominent example. In light of that, the newest trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew might have included a character called One-Eyed Willy as their version of the character, who is now canon rather than a part of the Legends.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Is Setting Up A Classic Treasure-Hunting Story
For now, it seems Skeleton Crew will begin with a basic premise of four children who stumble upon an ancient spaceship under their planet which seems boring and uninteresting, and the children are Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), KB (Kyriana Kratter) and Neel (Robert Timothy Smith). That said, the trailers for Skeleton Crew suggest that this escapade will in fact be much more than just wrapping the kids up in a silly adventure and bringing them back home.
Determined to make The Goonies comparisons more pronounced than ever, this new series appears to have some kind of buried treasures with its pirates, booby traps and other puzzles. Likewise, it does look like Jude Law’s character Jod Na Nawood is somehow involved with these kids in their desperate search for what appears to be an extremely lucrative treasure somewhere in the dawn of the Galactic Empire, as he is seen in the trailers chasing after the kids after they find a massive treasure room. To that end, glimpses of the trailers have a few instances that implying that treasure that these children come across in these trailers belongs to the most infamous pirate of the Star Wars galaxy.
We Think The Treasure Belongs To Xim The Despot
The latest trailer of the Star Wars universe including the Skeleton crew depicts, on more than one occasion, the Weequay skull which was featured in the booby traps and was located behind a big throne in the treasure room. Le skull symbol is thus, a quite valid Xim symbol which is identical to the Xim the Despot one of the famous pirate warlord who existed thousands of years before the events of Skywalker saga. Mentioned originally as a very fierce pirate with a great treasure ship, Xim first appeared in the 1980s Han Solo and the Lost Legacy book that’s no more volume of the canon and depicts a non-canon Legends story.
Xim was the emperor of a very huge empire that was later overthrown by the new Hutt clans. He also allegedly had a great treasure hidden on his lost ship named the Queen of Ranroon. Nevertheless, Star Wars mythology was unable to completely forget about Xim the Despot and some bits of his narrative. Xim’s symbol survived as part of the existing canon forever and his main skull was made from mytag crystal that can be spotted in the masthead of Dryden Vos’ yacht.
Similarly, it was stated the size of Xim’s flagship temple was almost the same as that of Supreme Leader Snoke’s Mega-class Star dreadnought, the Supremacy. This therefore means the ship is among one of the largest in the entire star wars timeline. If This Is Xim, Skeleton Crew Is Revealing More About The Galaxy’s Ancient Past
If the skull symbols and the treasure is related to Xim the Despot, it would mean changing the ancient warlord into something other than human, and Weequay is what it seems like. But that feels like a very minimal recon, considering that the character has been spoken of and never seen. In the same line of thought, one can also claim that it would make sense for Xim being a Weequay, and being later defeated by the Hutts would mean defeat due to many descendants of Weequays that worked for the Hutt clan, probably starting with Xim’s time of being a warlord.
Also, worth mentioning is that Hondo Ohnaka has already been confirmed to be a Weequay pirate, and his ship has already been shown in teasers with trailers much earlier released for his live-action debut in the upcoming Skeleton Crew series. And who better than Hondo Ohnaka, who is still in the fires, can give Jod and the kids an idea about the Weequay pirate warlord in the past. One can definitely picture Hondo at some point searching for Zim’s fable treasure ship, in which case he would be looking for his treasure.
Xim the Despot would also permit Skeleton Crew to advance in a similar manner to Ahsoka, providing additional information regarding the ancient history thousands of years ahead of the timeline of the Skywalker saga. In any case, looking back becomes all the more pertinent in light of James Mangold’s new movie, Dawn of the Jedi, which examines the genesis of the first Jedi order set some 25,000 years prior to The Phantom Menace. In Legends at least.
Xim’s pirate empire existed around the same time, perhaps even commencing towards the end of Peridean empire. At any rate, it will be interesting to know whether Xim the Despot is Skeleton Crew’s One-Eyed Willy, only to find out upon the show’s premiere in December.
